Few things are more frightening than seeing your pet suffering from an illness or injury that requires immediate veterinary attention. At Animal Care Hospital of Walnut Creek, we understand and are here to help. We are also a Walnut Creek emergency vet during our regular business hours and are here to handle any emergency or urgent care situation.
Because we are open from 9 am to 8 pm, seven days a week, our team is available when many other animal hospitals in the area are closed. In emergencies, every second counts. If your pet needs immediate attention, please bring them in now. When possible, we ask that you call before your arrival so we can best prepare for your pet.
WHEN TO SEEK EMERGENCY CARE FOR YOUR PET
Several situations warrant bringing your pet in for emergency care:
- Diarrhea/Vomiting: An instance or two of diarrhea or vomiting may not be a significant cause for concern. However, repeated episodes warrant a visit to an emergency vet, as serious problems could be to blame.
- Trouble Breathing: If your pet is having trouble breathing, they need immediate veterinary attention. Do not hesitate, especially if your dog or cat’s lips appear puffy.
- Weakness or Collapse: When a pet suddenly collapses due to weakness or seems excessively weak, it could be a sign of a major problem, such as a cardiac condition, internal bleeding, or organ malfunction.
- Loss of Control of Back Legs: Breeds like Corgis and Dachshunds commonly experience this issue due to spinal problems. This type of paralysis can often be cured, but only with prompt veterinary attention.
- Major Trauma: If your pet has been attacked by another animal, fallen, been hit by a car, or suffered any other type of severe trauma, bring them in right away. There could be internal injuries even if they seem okay on the outside.
